THE SECRET TO MANAGING SOCIAL MEDIA WITHOUT GOING CRAZY

Updated: Aug 9, 2023

Let's be real. Social media will make you feel like a nutcase. Even the most seasoned social media manager feels the pressure to keep up with algorithm changes and feature updates.

If you've ever gotten on social media and mindlessly scrolled for an hour on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter ... you need a strategy. After you've double-tapped yourself into oblivion, you go into panic mode and stress about what to post (for yourself or a client) so you post something with little thought behind it OR you don't post at all.

Guilty as charged.

As an entrepreneur, you have to put processes in place to guard your time. Time is money. You need to focus on money-making activities to reach your goals.

Tip #1 - Be Strategic

To be successful in today's hectic online world, you have to stop going about your social media all willy-nilly.

You need a social media strategy to stay focused on your WHY.

To create your strategy, answer the following questions:

  • What are my social media goals?

  • Where is my audience hanging out on social?

  • Which social networks support growth for my business?

  • Am I tracking analytics and measuring performance data?

  • Am I creating valuable resources for my customers?

Once you've answered these questions, it's time to make a plan.

Tip #2 - Social Media Strategy

Write down the who, what, when, where, and why.

  • WHO follows you? Get to know them as real people who have real wants and needs.

  • WHAT are your competitors up to? What are you posting?

  • WHEN are you posting, commenting, sharing - and how long will it take? Batch your content and set a posting schedule.

  • WHERE are these actions taking place? What platforms are good for your biz?

  • WHY are you putting out content? To gain new customers, increase engagement, drive traffic to your website, build a community, have better customer support?

A well-built content strategy should include:

  • Clearly defined goals

  • An audit of your existing social media presence

  • Competitive analysis

  • A social media calendar/posting schedule

  • A strategy for analyzing & measuring data

"The way to stand out on social media is to identify specific goals, create valuable posts that align with those goals, and distribute content on the right platforms.." – Sarah Aboulhosn, Sprout Social

Tip #3 - Put It All Together

Planning an effective content strategy is an ongoing cycle, but it doesn't have to make you lose your mind. Create a strategy, commit to it, and put it into action. Plan, execute, analyze, pivot. Don't be afraid to change the course.
